One for the Guys: How to get a Second Date

So you’ve secured yourself a first date and it’s in your diary, on your phone calendar or scribbled down on the back of your hand. The venue has been chosen, thanks to our guide, and you’ve checked out our Pinterest board to help decide on your threads! All that’s left now is to impress her enough that she agrees to a second date…

Like that difficult second album, there is no winning formula to securing a second encounter. But check out our tips below and you should be following up an impressive debut performance with a stellar sophomore record… shame we couldn’t help the Kaiser Chiefs.

Numero one: Make a Good Impression!

It might sound obvious but a good first impression can make or break the rest of a date. According to some white-coat-wearing experts, it takes just 2 seconds for a girl to decide if she’s into you or not, which isn’t a lot of time! The most important factor is physical appearance so make sure you’ve cleaned, trimmed and styled yourself. 29% of people say the first thing they notice is someone’s teeth, so even if they’re a little bit crooked or yellow, at least make sure your breakfast isn’t still there. Secondly, make sure you dress appropriately for the date. It’s easy for us blokes – jeans and a shirt will pretty much cover most occasions! You can make it smarter by adding a jumper or casual jacket - which you will then hand over to your shivering date on the walk back to the car, of course! Finally, make sure you’re rocking some clean, smart shoes and you are smelling sweet like chocolate. Remember…  everyone has their own personal taste so don’t worry if you think she might not like your style, just be yourself and at least be a clean, tidy human being!

 

Second thing: Be a Gent!

We’re not talking single-stemmed roses and kisses on the hand, but holding open doors and generally being polite is a no-brainer. Keep the conversation light, ask questions and discuss your interests.

Don’t try to be all cool and stand-offish because no one wants to date a guy who seems more into himself - It’s ok to have a laugh and be friendly! Don’t forget, it’s pretty much guaranteed that she’s checked you out on social media beforehand, so she’ll already know if you look like an idiot… be prepared to answer questions about that profile picture of you (the one in the dress) and be honest from the start, you might surprise her!

And finally: Don’t Play Games!

Despite what you think they teach girls on Sex and the City or The OC, they don’t like to play games when it comes to dating. If you like her and want to see her again, then LET HER KNOW! Forget the silly rules about waiting three days before making contact. It’s ok to send a casual text saying you had a good time and would like to do it again… as long as you do! After all, if you and your date aren’t attracted to each other, spend most of the time in an awkward silence and have absolutely nothing in common, then why would you want a second date?!

Ultimately, the important thing is to enjoy yourself! Stressing about a second date is pointless if it ruins your first one and she will definitely be able to pick up on that weirdness… If it’s not meant to be, then it’s not meant to be… and she was ugly, if your mates ask.
