Remember the awkward ‘Married at First Sight’ couple…
… no, not those - that was a disaster! The other two…
… well, they’ve split up.
When we saw adverts for Channel 4's real-life series, Married At First Sight last year, we didn't know what to expect but we loved it. Read their story so far.
Two couples married – firstly Jason and Kate who had their marriage annulled just weeks after the ceremony based on the fact they'd never consummated it and he was on Tinder - maybe not given as the official reason but it’s a good enough reason to us!
Then there was 32-year-old Emma Rathbone and 33-year-old James Ord-Hume who awkwardly hit it off, but as friends or as something more romantic wasn’t clear. But after a little time the couple did give it a go and chose to remain married – tissue please!
Now, 34 weeks later we find out they’ve split up and we’re not afraid to admit it we’re a little devastated. We’ll be fine. Fine! We just really wanted this one to work out!
Emma said in a recent interview, "We really did want it to work. We gave it our best shot"
It turns out it was James who ended the marriage. "I told her I wasn't in love with her and I felt we needed to draw a line under things" he said. But he wasn't alone in his feelings Emma said, "It was actually quite a relief, although very sad. I really thought meeting the way we did meant we stood a chance, as nothing else I'd tried had."
So while the couple did have sex during their relationship, it wasn't something they were hugely "passionate" about and their lack of physical attraction to one another was something that came between them – no amount of science can explain it.
They both said, "We like and respect each other too much to let it get that bad," and intend to remain friends.
Good luck Emma and James x
Because love can't be planned and that’s why it’s special.
