In a recent study, it has been revealed that 3 in 4 of
British women prefer their men with a little more flab (and a little less ab!)
23 million women find muscular men a big turn off, and over half of British
women would choose love handles over six-packs.
The study was commissioned to mark the DVD and Blu-ray release
of Bad Neighbours, which pits a chiselled Zac Efron (and his lovely 6 pack
looking tummy) against the slightly more ‘plump’ Seth Rogan (and his equally
lovely, but slightly less ‘packed’ tummy), in countless shirtless scenes in an
all-out neighbour prank war.
What else, what
else?!
WELL the study also revealed that 96% of women said that a
dinner date with an ab obsessed man is no fun, no fun at all. A restaurant meal
is all about wine, chips and chocolate fondant….who wants to be sat opposite a
nettle tea drinking, riveta and cottage cheese eating hunk? Not us, that’s for
sure.
The Top 5 Ab-less Celebs women would most like to share a
date with:
1)
Colin Firth
2)
Robbie Williams
3)
Leonardo DiCaprio
4)
Robert Pattinson
5)
Seth Rogan
But rather sadly, 74% of women admitted to feeling self-conscious at the thought of taking their clothes off in front of a perfectly toned man.
Why do we feel this
way? Let’s ask the experts…
Relationship expert Tracey Cox sums it up perfectly; “Women
are far more likely to relax and let loose with a man who they feel isn’t judging
their appearance. Even if the gym-buff guy swears he loves curves, his
discipline highlights our lack of it.”
And no one wants to be reminded of that un-used gym
membership during the throes of passion.
Unfortunately that view is just a product of today’s
society. Women are under crazy pressure (or so it feels) to have the perfect
body. On the TV, in magazines, in film – we’re told from every angle that ‘beautiful’
is ‘skinny’. We all know deep down, that that’s not the case – but when we’re
stark naked in front of a man who looks like he modelled for Calvin Klein, insecurities
may arise.
So yes, a little bit of flab, would be appreciated. And hey,
at least you’ve found someone to share that tub of Ben & Jerry’s with. ……
HA! Who are we kidding, go and buy your own.
What do the guys
think?
On the other side of the coin, UK’s leading dating expert
gives his view on the matter; “….if guys don’t feel they are big, tall, or
muscly enough it can shatter their confidence….however, the reality is women are
a lot more concerned about whether a man is intelligent, trustworthy, reliable,
and ambitious…”
So what can we take
from this? That the guys spending 25 hours a day in the gym and injecting protein shakes into their eyeballs need to chill out. Really, chill out! We’d rather you were at home with us, on the sofa with a bottle of wine and a bag of dairy milk buttons.
