Is your Sense of Humour a Turn-On or a Turn-Off?

This is no laughing matter - a recent study has revealed that a good sense of humour is the most desirable quality when searching for that special someone.

The study revealed men communicate more with women who have a sarcastic streak than those who use politics as the butt of their jokes. Whist women tend to strike up conversations more often with men who have a dry sense of humour and not those who have a dark sense of humour.

This got us thinking… people can have very different senses of humour, so does your sense of humour make any more or less attractive to the opposite sex and do certain types of humour go together better than others?

How much more attractive does your particular brand of humour make you?

Sarcastic

MALE 7%

FEMALE 14%

Funnily enough we love a spot of sarcasm. It is a brilliant trait: "Are you being sarcastic?" "No, of course I'm not... what makes you think that?".

Consider yourself lucky if you find that special someone who is just as hilariously sarcastic as you are, but also successfully detects your sarcasm and finds it absolutely hilarious - it's a rare and beautiful thing in this world!

Geeky

Sorry, gents, The Big Bang Theory tried its best to give geeks sex appeal, but it looks like it wasn't too successful. However, some congratulations are in order for the ladies! It's no surprise that men enjoy the company of a woman with an entire back catalogue of Star Wars puns and uncanny impression of Gollum. It’s just precious!

Raw

MALE -9%

FEMALE 4%
This one isn't too difficult to decipher. Women are considered funny when armed with a raw sense of humour whilst men are often just considered rude - sorry guys. Women with a ‘don’t give a wotsit’ attitude seem to be somewhat of a novelty to the opposite sex; until that is, they completely emasculate them…  you can’t have it both ways fellas!

Practical Joker

MALE -9%

FEMALE -9%

Practical jokes are always appreciated from a safe distance as a spectator, everyone knows that! But if you’ve got an addiction for brilliantly timed practical jokes, then don’t forget the golden rule: don’t start what you can’t finish!

So, can humour help you find love?

YES! Researchers believe your style of humour provides clues about your intelligence, creativity and even your genetic fitness to potential partners. So when you and your date have similar senses of humour it becomes easier to understand and create a rapport, as well as interpret when they’re kidding or teasing - this kind of understanding creates a feeling of intimacy vital to postdate relationship success.

Whatever your style of dating, remember: make 'em laugh!
