Top Dates in Sheffield

Looking for some inspiration for a lovely date in Sheffield? We’ve put together a list of our favourite places...

Cocktails at The Wick at Both Ends
Sitting on West Street The Wick at Both Ends is one of the best cocktail bars in Sheffield. With a comfy pub feel, it serves delicious (and very intoxicating) beverages, from flaming over-proof Tiki grogs to classic Margaritas and their own fabulous in-house creations. We’d suggest getting there early doors to enjoy the intimate atmosphere with your date, and having 1 or 2 of the Double Grape Martinis!

Sheffield Walks

Sheffield has more parkland than any other city in the UK –and now that it’s getting a bit warmer, it’s the perfect time to explore! Check out the Sheffield Gov website for walking maps – there’s loads on there, all with their own highlights. We like The Mayfield and Porter Valley’s walk, you’ll get to see some of the remains of Sheffield’s early industry as well as some really beautiful scenery. And the circular walk is only 4 miles, so not too taxing! No one wants to get red-faced and sweaty on a date….from excessive walking, that is.
Cinema Date at The Showroom

The Showroom is one of the largest independent cinemas in Europe, showing the latest film releases and classic cinema. It’s a really relaxed atmosphere; grab a glass of wine and a bite to eat in their café (drinks can be taken into the theatre too!) The Showroom also hosts ‘Live Screening’ of theatre shows, concerts, ballet’s etc...

Afternoon Tea at Fancie

Coffee and cake is a classic date option; who doesn’t like cake?! Renowned for the best cupcakes in town, Fancie have an Afternoon Tea menu that includes finger sandwiches, scones, cakes and tray bites – that’s enough to keep you both entertained for a little while!
Skiing Lesson

Just an hour’s drive from Sheffield City Centre is a magical Winter Wonderland where there is ALWAYS snow. No, we’re not talking about Narnia, pre-Aslan revolution, we’re talking about Xscape. Get your ski / snowboard gear on and glide down the slopes with your date – or, if you’ve never been skiing before and aren’t quite ready for carefree gliding, book yourselves into a lesson on the baby slopes. It’s very, very fun and just a bit different. Who knows, give it a couple of months and you could be packing away your ski jackets, goggles and boots for a romantic trip to Chamonix….maybe.
Botanical Gardens
Hidden away behind Ecclesall Road, the Botanical Gardens are a beautiful retreat, where you could spend hours wandering amongst the tropical plants, wild flowers and exotic trees. They often hold open-air theatre productions, so it’s worth checking out what’s on. Failing that, grab a blanket, a bottle of vino, general picnicky things, and have yourselves a botanical picnic party.

Wig & Pen

Overlooking the picturesque Georgian Paradise Square, the Wig & Pen is a great first date venue. The pub isn’t right in the centre which makes it a good choice for Friday and Saturday nights (it’s no fun being on a date surrounded by hen nights, stag dos, and rowdy crowds!) It also has really nice lighting, an important thing on a first date; too bright and it’s far too intense but flick on the soft lighting and it’s low key and romantic!
